At the risk of sounding like an old lady – being a kid today is just not the same as it was when I was younger.
Sure, there was the internet, and I had a snazzy flip-phone from the age of 14 or so, but that practically looks like the dark ages compared to now. My parents had a computer (one of the big white chunky ones), and we were allowed to play games, but we never had full access to it.
Ipads and iphones are now what’s demanded from most children’s wish lists. The internet is a big place, and with tech getting more accessible, it can become a bit of a worry for parents.
Ironically, while scrolling through Facebook earlier in the week we came across a video that could help put parents’ minds at ease. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver took to social media to talk about an app he uses to control the Wi-Fi in his house. See the video here.

OurPact is a ‘breakthrough parent control app’ that allows parents to sync their children’s devices and control their wi-fi and app usage.
Parents can create a schedule to regulate how many hours each device can use the wi-fi for per-day, allowing them to cut it off earlier on school nights, for example.
Due to their research, OurPact can even give parents advice on the recommended amount of time certain age-groups should be spending on their devices.
This acts as a good carrot vs stick tool too, as if your child misbehaves you can punish them by restricting their allotted time on the internet, and if they are particularly good, you can reward them by giving them extra time.
Parents have complete control through the OurPact dashboard on their device. One of the highlights of this app is the ability to block social media. That way you know your child isn’t scrolling through feeds when they should be sleeping, or spending more time socialising online than in real life.
This is a free app, so even if it doesn’t work for you, you’re not losing out on any money. Let us know what you think, or if you use any wi-fi or social media blocking apps.
